TPB AFK: The Pirate Bay – Away From Keyboard

Two years in the making, TPB AFK is a documentary about three computer addicts who revolutionized the world of media distribution with their hobby homepage. How did Tiamo, a beer crazy hardware fanatic, Brokep a tree hugging eco activist and Anakata, a paranoid cyber libertarian, get the White House to threaten the Swedish government with trade sanctions? TPB AFK explores what Hollywood's most hated pirates go through on a personal level.

Trailer and more info here: http://www.tpbafk.tv

This campaign starts exactly one month before the Court of Appeal hearings start in The Pirate Bay trial in Stockholm, Sweden. In 2009 the founders of The Pirate Bay were convicted to 1 year in jail and to pay damages of around 4 million dollars for having 'assisted in making copyrighted content available'. The precedent in the Pirate Bay case will have consequences for the future of the internet. We will cover the upcoming trial closely.

After the court case we'll sit down with two years of footage and start editing a first roughcut. The money we raise here will go to studio rent and an editor.

Thanks for showing interest in our project, all support is deeply appreciated!

Director

Oh man, I can't even begin to show enough emphasis as to how much joy it brings me to see this posted up on thepiratebay.org. Years after their first court case. I can't say personally I have ever been a fan of torrents or torrent sites. But I do understand the culture behind it and have a lot of respect for it. With that respect I can say that these three guys are the top dogs of the game. Its good to see them still standing up and not folding to the pressures of literally the world that is fighting against them. I for one can not wait for this DVD to be released, its unfortunate that we don't know whether that will be one month from now or one year from now. But in either event, I anticipate it with much enthusiasm. I think its an amazing concept to finally see the inner workings of something like piratebay.org and the people that run it on a personal level. I say it as such cause I know its the word documentary even though aptly titled as such is not giving this film the justice it deserves.

I would personally like to thank Simon Klose the director of this film, and the founders of piratebay.org for allowing him into their world. I think this is an amazing idea. If I we're more than a mere no body I would gladly shake all of your hands.
Simon, if you ever read this, please by all means send me a copy I would love to do a full review on it. I will eventually either way as I am going to some how get a copy of this film when it comes out!

Speaking of that, that reminds me. Whether your a supporter of the cause, a fan of the culture, or someone interested in learning more about it. I say help fund this film give, help give it the life it truly deserves! Let it not be wasted effort that ends up on the cutting room floor.

For so little as just $1 you can help fund the project help it get the best of the best editing, and best of the best studio time to get all the extras in. You can donate up to $5,000 as but to date I have yet to see someone back it that high. I think if lazycritic.com had more income we would. but thats us. Anyway that said if you want to help fund it go to http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tpbafk/tpb-afk-the-pirate-bay-away-from-keyboard drop a dollar or 10 or 25.. Id say go the 100 dollar route get yourself a copy of the DVD and a limited edition T-Shirt while your at it, again thats just me though. Just fair warning if your considering it do it before September 27, 2010 as thats the closing date for the possibility to help fund it.

If you wish to keep up to date on the films production from editing to release follow Simon on his blog for the film at http://www.tpbafk.tv/blog/

On that note even if you can't afford to put anything towards it, when you go to the kickstarter.com page for it (link above) do the world a favor, share it with facebook, twitter, stumbleupon, and all the other social sites of the like help it get the recognition spread the word.

Well I know how much of a fan boy this makes me out to sound but I don't care. Finding out about this tonight just got me stoked and now I can't wait for its release!

Girl Throws Puppies into River in Bugojno Bosnia

LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – A LiveLeak video entitled “Girl Throws Puppies into River”, believe videotaped at the Vrbas River in Bugojno Bosnia, is sparking an international online manhunt for the blond female, a story that has been covered internationally by news since Monday.

What is the identity of the girl featured in the video? Facebook accounts already set up about the “Girl Throws Puppies into River” video have called for her arrest. PETA said it has received notice of “local activists” engaging in animal cruelty in Bosnio. Ashley Fruno tells news today “Video-sharing sites have unfortunately allowed uncaring individuals to publicise cruelty they inflict on animals.”

The blond girl, believed a teen, doesn’t hide her face. She carries a bit of a smirk as she wears a red hoody. The video depicts her reaching into a pale and picking up newborns, tossing them to their death in a local river. Unconfirmed reports believe the girl lives in Bugojno. If true, authorities may have no difficulty finding the girl in a population of merely 50,000.

The video posted yesterday on LiveLeaks is at 909,000 views with 433 comments with 24 hours, with coverage across FOX News to British press Tuesday. The video has been labeled by LiveLeak as “Twisted Girl” and carries a warning “Whilst we appreciate publicising this video could lead to information that could be passed to authorities we would like to ask members that no personal information is posted here nor should any threats be aimed, or “action” taken, against this person other than to pass information to any relevant authority.”

In various locations including a FOX NEWS reports, readers believing they have found blond have been posting links to a Facebook account; the links have since been disabled.

Now I have seen a ton, I mean a ton of back and forth banter about this and people arguing the point that as disturbing as this is. Its ok, why... Because its just harmless teenage stupidity. That due to the fact that this girl and guy video taping are teenagers its fine. They don't know any better so people so back off them.

Are you serious people? Is there actually a part of this worlds population that truly means that? That makes me sick. Sick knowing people in this world can just turn the other cheek to such a thing. I gotta say I may take that attitude if a small child of only a few years of age did it litterally not knowing better but teenagers? Never, more so as they are video taping it for the memory, for the ability to put it on sites like youtube.com, while giggling about it.

Ive seen some people say well its ok, because its something that happens through out the world every day. People just can't take care of the animals, or what ever the case. To those people I ask, did you forget about animal shelters, neighbors with better resources, or maybe just maybe despite the fact that it would still be a cruel thing to do, leave them by the side of the road?

I dare people to bring there arguments here justifying this action, saying just let it go. Bring it, I know this will bring forth the trolls too but to you guys I say, I know somewhere in your tiny brains there is compassion. If your going to troll pick another post or another site.

I originally learned of this through my daily wake up routine going through the images on funnyjunk.com unfortunately I can not find the actually image up there anymore but it was a calling from another site to the members of funnyjunk.com from 4chan.org wanting to put there diffrences aside and find out more information about this person who would do such a cruel thing to any animal.

Through there combined efforts while authorities still seem to be searching for information people on funnyjunk.com found the information that I believe most media resources are using now to investigate further in to this matter. So kudos to those of funnyjunk.com and 4chan.org despite what people may say about the users of both sites. You have to admit that, that is proof that even people who just like to enjoy the internet while unwinding from there days who seem cut throat amongst one another are good people!

Anyway here is some info I found on FunnyJunk.com later in the day only hours after the original call to arms from /b/rethren  at 4chan.org

1001 WordPress Themes from Generic WP Themes

Well today I came across a site with tons of WordPress themes on it giving the impression on top of it that this person or set of people are adding to it regularly keeping the themes fresh and SEO friendly (which is a plus).  So I am digging through the site looking at some of the various categories of themes they have to offer and I must say I am actually Impressed with a majority of what I saw. Its not often I come across a theme development site that isn't linked directly to something like Template Monster that pretends to be its own development company. Whats more impressive about Generic WP Themes is the themes they offer, they are free!! Unfortunately I haven't given any of the themes I downloaded a shot as of yet. I have a blog else where I think I may try one or two of them out to see if they are as truely worth it as it seems, see if theres a catch 22 to the whole thing or not. But as of the moment I don't have the time to do that, only have the time to give a quick post based on the first impression.

If your sick of digging through WordPress.org Theme Directory or your not seeing anything you like from there you should take a quick glance over at Generic WP Themes see if anything they have to offer over there is to your liking.

I will say though,  cause this post in a sense is against my rules of engagement when posting about my experiences with any given site, service or product. I originally came across this theme site from a spammed comment here on lazycritic.com as I try to usually double check the spam cache for anything that might be ok, the "False Positives". So to that I say to Generic WP Themes.. tisk tisk! shame on you, grant it you gained something of it, but none the less why spam?

[Update: Aug. 17, 2010]

Well a few days ago I had written the above review on the themes from this site. Saying I would come back and eventually write more about the review when I had gotten a chance to try out some of the themes I had downloaded. Well, this morning I finally tried the bulk of my downloaded themes. And I don't have much to say about them I was hoping to use one of them on my personal blog chrishacia.com but to my disappointment I am stuck with one of the themese I found on the WP theme directory.

Why am I stuck you may ask, well maybe its because I am extremely picky but the themes there as nice looking as they are. Are not really Google Adsense friendly, well may not be friendly at all to many ad's in general. I specify Adsense as thats what I use, thats what I like. In fact many blog owners love Adsense. In my case I had downloaded roughly 24 of the templates of the unknown total (my math guessed it at about 1200).

Another reason I am stuck is because despite my love, admiration, or joy I get out of modifying my wordpress installs. Theres just some sites I want to have wordpress on that I just want it cut and dry and super simple to work with. Where I can pick and choose my options quickly and display things accordingly. What I got from this was a strict set of themes that flash as they were, we're extremely constricting in feeling to me. Showing only the Category titles as main links for the site and a block one block only with maybe the last 5 posts in it. Thats just to little for me. I need room to breath, room to add, room to display more. I want to show more things on my sidebars without going through the hassle.

However there is a flip side to my rant... There are tons of people that this will work for, and work for well. The themes are to say at the least pretty well done as far as visual appeal goes. And its not to say anyone from novice to guru couldn't do anything with these templates. Any novice user can roll one of these templates out, add a couple widgets and be ready to go (I think, I didn't get as far as the widget testing, i was rather turned off by the limited initial Activate settings for all 18 of the 24 templates I installed (I stopped at 18, gave up.))

So all in all I'm going to say these themes are super so long as your not to worried about SEO friendliness or running ads on your site. I would get these themes and actually use them If I was just making a BS web site to share with friends, co-workers, family even. But I would be highly unlikely to use any of them if I wanted them on a stream line site that I am attempting to get in the rankings in Search Engines. Well unless I was willing to spend a long night over hauling the chosen theme to be friendly and do what I want it to.

Neat-O-Rama aka Neat-O-Hub

I don't know what to really say about this site. All I know is in my journeys online earlier this morning I found myself on this particular site. Going through what seems to be a regularly updating and endless blog roll of information from various sites, a central hub for the few sites that seem indexed there.

This hub of sorts is definitely a good source of random information no one else knows but just as entertaining with the material. I think the one post that caught my attention that originally started my few hour spiral of reading random articles and viewing several gallery's of oddities  was the one about the "10 Coolest Science Fiction Planets". Bare in mind though I said I found it here and many more fun reads while at it. Neat-o-Rama is just the hub the actual article resides on Geek-o-System.com which that in it of itself seems to have a fair share of fun articles to read as well.

If your interested in weird unknown fact, random facts, or just looking to kill time I would say check the hub out. You will if your anything like me bored or not will find some fun tid bits on it to read, some videos and picture galleries to enjoy as well

ScribeFire blogging away from blogging.

Every day that passes I am always passively looking for a new means to add something new, or connect to any one of the blogs I run. Mostly this one and 2 others. So the other day I am sitting on my phone thinking about the logic behind why I choose to get the WordPress App on my Sprint HTC Hero through the Android Market. Which was the ability to update these blogs from where ever whenever I feel the motivation, or the inspiration or whatever the case may be. That said while I was thinking I started wondering if there was any way I could update any of my blogs in a collective. Whether its a new post editing a post, or any general work I may want to do on any of the blogs outside of the modifications I am currently working on like custom themes, code, etc..

So I found a couple pieces of software add-on's of sorts for things like FireFox and Google Chrome. ScribeFire being one of them I thought was worth giving a shot to after reading more about it. Out of the lot of them I felt like I was justified in choosing ScribeFire. But I will be reviewing more just cause that's in the name of what this site does. Maybe Ill find one to be better than ScribeFire after trying a few of them. If that's the case Ill keep you all posted.

Main reason I choose ScribeFire was because of the abilities it offered. To list a few..

ScribeFire allows you to:
• Categorize and tag your blog posts
• Upload images
• Set timestamps
• Save works-in-progress as notes
• Post an entry as a draft
• Share your posts on social websites
• Upload files via FTP

I'm quoting someone else with that list, but I have found that that's not all its not limited to just that. It has way more options making it easy for you to post to your blog from your browser during the moment your inspired. It beats having that inspiration come over you then running off to your site to post about it and while your logging in, prepping to "Add New Post" a massing a large amount of open tabs or new browser windows (depends on your surfing habits I suppose tab or new window) and slowly having that inspiration fizzle out to nothing leaving a worthless draft you say you'll come back to later and never do, or leaving yourself with a lousy posting. To you couldn't just click a little button like with ScribeFire at the base of your browser and select your blog (if you have multiple blogs) and start posting away while the fire is still in you, while your still staring at the page, video, profile whatever it is that sparked the flame of your inspirational moment.

My only Cons of the moment (being as this is my first posting with it, giving it the true test run after digging through all the features and coming to the conclusion that this is as close to my editor without actually going to my editor as I might get) are:

• The initial congratulations, thanks for installing, this is how you get started page with ScribeFire.. Unlike most developers of add-on's for browsers or just really anything now a days ScribeFire seems to want to give you an idea of how to set up your newly installed ScribeFire add-on for your browser, and not just point your to a Thank you and their homepage, or some random advertisement. My issue with their landing page is its very vague. They hand you a handful of ways to open the app Tap your F8 key, or do this combination of keys or press this menu item or use this button. Then they go into a couple paragraphs what will happen with your first load up with little detail about what its going to ask you. Then points you to a "help" section.

• After having written this, going through and adding links. I am running through the HTML version of this article and I am finding that this app is adding unnecessary markup to the code behind what you see. Opening and closing paragraph tags for no reason. Or adding something like a random Emphasized text tag or the biggest pet peeve I am having is with this right now is the links. For example if I add a link as I am typing with the button to add a link with. Then continue typing from there or I make an edit and add more text there after whatever the case I have already found that this app Adds a space right before the < /a > tag so when you go to continue typing your typing with the previously just made link your still "creating the link so to speak" if to emphasis this lets say I make a link "Sample Link" and then I continue typing my result would be like "Sample Link and then I continue typing my result would be like" actually I am not finding as I make this example that the case seems to be with all tags, just doing the font tag above for the example I end up with the same result... Now the only reason I pick on this issue is because well in this day and age, where everyone calls themselves a webmaster because they have a blog and they learned how to add an image manually to a post with a real life HTML tag and they barely know even basic HTML (yes I know I have issues) what happens to them they aren't highly likely to be able to fix the issue, stop it, and so on cause they wont know its a simple fix (remove that last little space between the end tag) They may even end up spending hours "researching" a fix, ultimately negating the concept of this App to begin with..

Other than that, that's really the only things I can think of that irks me about the ScribeFire add-on for Firefox. Don't get me wrong with my rants. I like this app so far. If you know your basic HTML if and you want a quicker means of posting a new post on any of your blogs, check this out. Its a tiny bit buggy but what software isn't in this day and age, once this app grows and matures a bit I think this may end up the industry standard to blogging away from your blog. It has the potential thus far, just the developers of it need to work out some kinks.

For those stuck on Installing ScribeFire and using it there after during its "First Run" it prompts you to put your blog information it. On the second screen is where I am going to guess some of you might likely be stuck on more so if your new to blogging. Now I will only speak in the case of WordPress as I am not to familiar with the other blogware titles out there as you can tell. But that's mostly due to not liking them much, having given them a quick try not liking them dumping them and never looking back (they could have been improved on since though who knows)

There is more to this setting than just finding the file. This is something I think ScribeFire should mention on there page, and chances are there's a similar concept applied to other blogware titles as well. But as I said I am speaking only on behalf of WordPress installs right now. What you have to do to make this work is go into your blogs "Settings" tab on the left of your dashboard. Expand the tab so you can see all the options under it. Then click on "Writing" from there you are looking for the "Remote Publishing" part, scroll down a bit you will see it. Looks sorta like..

If "Enable the WordPress, Movable Type, MetaWeblog and Blogger XML-RPC publishing protocols." is not checked, then check it (by default WordPress keeps this setting off). But without it being on your not going to be able to access your blog through any third part app using the XML-RPC API's. Once you have checked the option to turn it on just scroll down a little bit more and click the "Update Settings" button. After that you should be all set.

By the way the xmlrpc.php file with WordPress at least is usually in the root folder of the blog software itself. So if you installed your blog in a folder "Blog" the url would then be http://yourdomain.com/Blog/xmlrpc.php

Lazy Critic Review:
Recently a friend of mine came across this app on the Android Market through another friend of his, in return he turned me on to it. This is a game that is very similar to the classic Dope Wars. However this rendition takes it to an all new level. Not to be taken out of context however. This game like I said is similar but so vastly different. For example it has gone from a single player click based game to what looks like it could be potentially a vast online environment. Using your smartphones ability to go online this game connects to a database of users based on their geolocation and connects them to you via your geolocation. In other words if no one else plays this game within an x radius of you this game may be slightly boring. Then again maybe not as one of the other spins on the game is its use of what looks like Google maps. Where the game randomly selects real locations near you and in surrounding area's that you must physically travel (or within a reasonable walking range it seems) to in order to get the extra points and in game cash. It randomly places people looking to buy, people looking to sell, and then physical locations to "Run a Mission" on. Unfortunately I am without a car right now and barely get out so I am limited to seeing how this works (if you have experienced how travel works in this game leave some comments below).

One of the draw backs to this game is the fact that it uses a lot of your phones resources, from graphics, to internet, to gps, to the battery itself.

Well I take back my previous comment about being limited. I had made this posting sometime ago, but it slipped through the cracks and fell into the draft pile. Since I began writing this article a month or so ago. I have come to find out that this game is vastly different then my first impression. But thats not a bad thing. Underworld: Traffic as it turns out is fairly addictive, more in the sense as a time killer as the app does have its mute points where there just nothing going on. That aside though if your a mature person I say give it a shot. You can find it on both the iphone and android phones.

Vampire Suck (2010) Movie Review

So I am sitting down sifting through my little archive of movies debating if I want to throw any out or store them else where cause Ive already watched them but like them enough to want to keep them, and in the process I come across one titled "Vampires Suck". I've never heard of the movie (you'd be surprised how many I have that I haven't the slightest clue what they are, I just have them) so I decided to play it and see what its all about. Now I am glad I did haha.

Zach Anner

I don't know what to say about this guy other than he is nothing short of amazing. He is someone who all people with disabilities can look up to and quite possibly learn something from as he takes life with a disability and makes it shine so brightly. Then again anyone disabled or not can learn something from this guy.

I am writing this cause he is a true inspiration to me based on his videos and not only that but just on the notion that this guy definitely deserves as much attention as people can give him. What initially got me intrigued about this guy was a picture post I found while going through my normal wake up routine, I was on FunnyJunk and I came across the post "Please Read, FunnyJunkies". Which then sparked my interest to find out more, see the video, find out what I could. Needless to say this guy is everywhere on the net, his video has gone insanely viral.

It all started with with Opera and her "Your Own Show" contest
